Mr. Hugues Irenge, researcher affiliated with CREGET, has successfully completed his Master’s degree in Climate Change Engineering at Pan African University, Institute located in Algeria. His research training was done at Hiroshima University, Japan. This opportunity was realized through the joint supervision program between the Pan African University (PAU) and Hiroshima University (HU).
At the Environmental Microbial Biotechnology Laboratory, Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, Hugues was engaged in training on cyanobacteria cultivation and preservation techniques including mastering aseptic methods, media preparation, long-term preservation and maintenance of cyanobacteria cultures. This training supported his MSc thesis on cyanobacteria physiology under controlled conditions.
Beyond his lab commitments, Hugues was involved with the International Students Exchange Section where he contributed to facilitating cross-cultural events between Japanese and international students. In addition, through the Campus Student Rangers volunteer program at the Higashi-Hiroshima Botanical Garden, Hugues participated in reforestation activities and biodiversity monitoring.
This integrated experience exemplifies CREGET’s commitment to research development in Africa and particularly in the DR Congo. We extend our gratitude to PAU and HU for their collaboration, and we hope this partnership will continue to provide valuable opportunities for African researchers to engage with global scientific communities.
